6 Things to Think About When Choosing your Wedding Table Flowers

Choosing what flowers to have on your tables for your wedding breakfast is a really difficult decision. Almost everyone thinks about their bouquets, buttonholes and ceremony flowers but what to choose for your tables can be a bit of a daunting experience. You want your wedding tables to look beautiful but maybe you don’t know what style to go for, how much money to allocate to it or even what colours to choose, well we’re here with a handy guide on how to make your wedding tables sing!

Your guests will be sitting at these tables for a good couple of hours, so it can really make or break the whole vibe of your wedding if you don’t pay close enough attention to your wedding tables and how you want your floral vision to be brought to life.

Whether your floral budget doesn’t quite stretch or you want to go all out on your tables and decor, our guide will help you decide on your style and what you might want to go for to ensure your tables look absolute perfection.

Think about your wedding theme and your venue

What kind of wedding are you aiming for? Are you going for an all-out floral extravaganza where your wedding florals are centre-stage (after the happy couple obviously!)?

Is your venue full of character and charm so you can keep your decoration to a minimum?

Once you understand the look and style you wish to achieve, your table centrepieces can certainly fit into the brief.

Have a think about the space and how much decor you think it needs to look beautiful. If your venue has a lot of character you could probably opt for something simple on your tables that complements the overall floral vision. If your venue is very simple you might need to allocate a little more of your budget in making the room sing with flowers.

Think budgets

How important is it to you that your wedding breakfast blows your guests’ socks off? Perhaps you want to really wow your guests and give them a wedding to remember or perhaps you would rather spend the money on decorating the ceremony room?

A great idea to consider is reusing your ceremony florals for the tables. Use your table centrepieces pushed together to create one long registrars arrangement (see above images), or use your florals on stands, to create different heights, and also along the aisle or on windowsills.

A very common solution is to use your long registrars arrangement as a top table arrangement, creating a stunning floral arrangement that is a focal piece for your speeches (see below).

Think about your colours

It’s always a great idea for the tables to match back to the rest of the flowers, but it’s not the only option. You could consider the room decor to be more neutral toned and the wedding party flowers to feature different colours for a lovely and interesting touch.

Or perhaps pick out one colour from the bridal bouquet for each table- one pink table, one lilac, one sage green and so on.

Your tables could also feature one of the flower types from your bridal party flowers- so perhaps the tables are all rainbow gypsophila arrangements and the bouquets feature this flower as well as many others.

Other ideas are to focus your tables with pampas grasses. Lately we have been enjoying the bridesmaids bouquets as lovely little pampas bouquets that can then double up as long pampas strands in bottles for the tables.

Think about different table options

Are you having long banquet tables or round tables? Round tables tend to look good with a grouping of bud vases or a table centrepiece. Long tables are perfect for garland arrangements or smaller centrepieces that are placed all the way down the tables. Long banquet tables look absolutely stunning with central draping and a large arrangement at the foot of the tables if you’re going for something WOW.

Tables can get crowded quickly with food so think about something simpler if you’re going for sharing platters. Think about different options… So what options are there?

Bud vases are the simplest option and come in at the most cost effective option. However, it can be hard to use these in any meaningful way for the ceremony before.

Table centrepieces have a wow factor and can be something that sits flat on the table or in an elevated vessels for some added height and drama. These can be used for your end of aisle, down the aisle or on your registrar table.

Garlands look lovely but can run more costly than you might think as they use a lot of flowers and foliage to get them to look impactful. Downside is that you can’t reuse these in other areas as they need to be set up on the tables ready for your wedding breakfast.

Using the bridesmaids bouquets is a fabulous way of making the most of your wedding flowers, especially if you have a lot of bridesmaids. We can ensure the bouquets are cut perfectly to fit into your vases (see below). The bridesmaids can even take home their very own vase as a little gift!

Think about what else will be on your tables

You can really go to town on additional items for your tables. Remember there’ll be wine, glasses, water, cutlery and plates to fit it, but are you going to make your napkins a little more special- will you be adding colour here and through draping?

Will you be doing favours and is this a way for you to add some personality to your tables? Perhaps a little colourful cookie or a pin badge for each guest?

Are you adding more details with placemats and name tags?

Candles are a fabulous way to add more colour and interest (as well as ambience!).

The more items that are on your table and that match with your wedding theme, the more put together your tables will be. If you are a more-is-more kind of couple then go for all of these things and also some stunning floral centrepieces for the ultimate wedding breakfast. Don’t forget the little details!

So whatever your budget, you can see that you can certainly create stunning tables using a few or a lot of ideas. A simple bridesmaids bouquet doubled up as a table centrepiece or a bud vase with a lovely little arrangement in the middle of each table will go a long way to create a special look. Alternatively you can go all out with large table centrepieces placed high up on stands that grab your guests attention the moment they arrive!

Whatever you decide, just make sure you have thought of the end result you are looking for as well as the amount you want to spend, and all the little details to consider alongside, and remember, you’ll be happy with whatever you choose once you’re sitting there with all your special people listening to all their special words on the most special day!
